Newsletter Week 8 Term 4

Dear Parent/Caregivers,

This evening we will be holding our Christmas Concert in the undercover area. Please start arriving around 5.00pm for your family picnic and sausage sizzle. Children must be at their class at 5.45 p.m. I look forward to seeing you at the concert.

Attached to this newsletter is the 2022 School Fee schedule. The fees have not changed from 2021 except for the increase of the 3-Year-Old Kindergarten fee to $70 per day. This increase is necessary because we receive no funding from the government or CEWA. The incredible educational program we run must be fully funded by users. If you have any questions, please contact me. Please support this valuable program.

On Friday 10th of December at 1.30pm, in the Multi-Purpose Room, we will be holding our Awards Assembly. At the assembly we will be presenting awards to students who have achieved in a variety of areas.

I am pleased with my appointment as principal of Holy Rosary for another 6 months. I look forward to working with you to continue to develop and improve the best school in the Kimberley.

May we continue to be United in Christ.

Principal

Parent information

Dear Parents / Guardians,

I know many of you will be aware of what has been happening in our community over the weekend with the boating accident involving one of our families. Unfortunately, with permission to communicate with you from the Norris family, I am deeply saddened to inform you Mr Paul Norris was recovered today by the emergency services searching for him. This is an incredibly tragic situation and distressing for many of you connected to the Norris family and the Derby Community.

I have been in contact with the Norris family today and expressed our condolences and support. At this stage we will continue to support the Norris family and students and staff directly affected in our school community. This means, among other things, keeping the school to normal routines as much as possible as this provides the reassurance of safety, calmness, stability, and predictability.

We recognise that students may be affected by this tragedy in different ways. The attached resources may assist you in how best to support your child during this time. https://parenting.sa.gov.au/pegs/PEG06-Grief-and-loss.pdf If you have any concerns regarding your child in relation to this situation or any other matter, please contact your classroom teacher in the first instance.

Thank you for your support and prayers for the Norris family during this stressful time. Please continue to pray for Paul Norris, his family and the Emergency Services involved in locating him.

I will continue to keep you updated as appropriate and with consent from the Norris family.
Yours sincerely,

Steve Dowie,
Principal

NEWSLETTER Week 3 Term 4

Dear Parent/Caregivers,

I would like to inform you that we will be having a Pupil Free Day on Monday 22nd November 2021. The purpose of the professional learning day is for the staff to complete their mandatory CEWA accreditation requirements and also complete policies, procedures and requirements to facilitate a smooth start to 2022 and an efficient end to 2021.

We will be holding  Parent/Teacher meetings on Wednesday 24th November. The school will close at 12:00pm to approx. 5:00pm. More information regarding booking times will be available early in November.

The change of eating times from before play to after playing has proven to be very successful. We have achieved all of the reasons for change:

  1. Children have more time to eat so consequently are eating more
  2. Eliminated nearly all rubbish
  3. Smooth and orderly transition to class
  4. Seated in a more pleasant environment

Thank you to all of the parent who attended the Parent of the Week morning tea on Wednesday. I really valued the time meeting the parents and enjoying a milo and morning tea with the students. Please make every effort to attend, when you are invited, because it means so much to your children.

Please place Wednesday 18th November on your calendar for our school board AGM. It will be held at 6:00pm. Also consider nominating for a position on the School Advisory Council (Board) to help to continue to improve our school.

May God bless you and your families,

Steve Dowie
Principal

NEWSLETTER Week 2 Term 4

Dear Parents/Caregivers,

Starting next Wednesday, 27th October, we will be holding a Parent of the Week morning tea. Parents of students who receive a Merit Award the previous Friday will be invited to attend a morning tea with their child and the staff on the Library verandah. This is a great opportunity to see your child’s classroom, meet the staff and other parents. It will be held from 10:15am-10:45am. I look forward to meeting our first group of Parents of the Week next Wednesday.

From this Monday, 25th October, we will be trialing a new format for recess and lunchtime. Instead of the children eating first and then playing it will be reversed to play first and then eat. The reasons behind the change are our concern that children aren’t eating their food and rushing off to play, the present location is not adequate and to eliminate the unacceptable amount of rubbish left after each break. The children will be supervised in suitable areas near their classrooms.

I would like to congratulate Aariz Mazumder for receiving a national Digital Technologies award in the recent ICAS Assessments. Well Done Aariz!
