Dear Parents/Caregivers

Virtue of the fortnight: Gratitude

For this past fortnight we have been focussing on Gratitude.  Gratitude is an important part of our Catholic faith and Jesus taught us many examples of when it was important to show Gratitude.   Gratitude is an important virtue to focus on as we come up to Mother’s Day this Sunday, despite the challenges we face in the world at this time, and with many unable to spend time together as a family.

Mary Mother of Jesus had an attitude of Gratitude for what God had given her, and her prayer of thanksgiving after she visited her cousin Elizabeth, who herself was grateful to God for the gift of motherhood late in life, is a beautiful story of how important this attitude of Gratitude is even when faced with challenges.

We have tried to teach our students this fortnight how important it is to be grateful in life as a tool towards greater happiness, wellbeing and connection with others, and we hope each of them show gratitude to their mothers this Sunday.

Thank you to Derby Aboriginal Health Service for their generous donation of $1500 towards cleaning supplies and a washing machine.  This will help keep our school safe from Coronavirus.

Strategic Plan 2020 – 2022

We have finalised our Strategic Plan for 2020 – 2022 after receiving input from staff, students and our parents.  Please take some time to look at our goals and directions for the next 3 years : https://hrsderby.wa.edu.au/wp-content/uploads/2020/05/Strategic-Plan-2020-2022.pdf

Wellness Wednesdays

This week we started Wellness Wednesdays.  After lunch each Wednesday each class is taught a lesson from the “You Can Do It” Curriculum, which is an evidence based Social emotional curriculum that teaches students strategies such as Resilience, confidence, persistence, organisation, and getting along with others.  These are important strategies for our students to manage their relationships and to help them achieve their best in their schooling.  Schools that have implemented the You Can Do It program have even seen better results in their Naplan and other academic achievement measures as a result of implementing the program!  More information can be found here : https://www.youcandoiteducation.com.au/about/

Kitchen Garden

As the weather cools down we will be transforming some of Early Years area into an edible kitchen garden.  If you are interested in becoming involved and helping us set up our garden please let Miss Christina know : Christina.son@cewa.edu.au
