TERM 1 WEEK 10 NEWSLETTER

Dear Parents and Caregivers,

It is hard to believe that we only have one day left of Term 1. I hope your child/ren and you have had an enjoyable experience at Holy Rosary over the past ten weeks. I wish you all a safe and Christ filled Easter.

Thank you to the parents who have recorded positive COVID-19 results for their children on the CEWA Self-Reporting Portal. I would like to remind you that it is mandated that you must report positive cases of COVID-19 onto the WA Health site WA Health RAT register. Families are also encouraged to continue to load their children’s COVID-19 positive information over the course of the school holidays.

Next term, starting week 1, we will be implementing our Healthy Eating Policy and our Waste Wise initiative. We will have Waste Wise Wednesday and Waste Free Friday where the teachers will check the students’ lunchboxes for single use plastics and packages. Please support our initiatives by only sending items from the Recommended list on our Healthy Eating page of the Parent Handbook. We are working hard to complete our garden centre before the start of Term 2.

This week we have been celebrating the events leading up to Easter. Today the students walked the Stations of the Cross. We did have a liturgy planned to celebrate Passion Sunday but due to COVID-19 restrictions we will not be holding the liturgy or assembly tomorrow.

Happy Easter.

TERM 1 WEEK 9 NEWSLETTER

Dear Parents and Caregivers,

REPORTS
The Term 1 Interim Reports were sent out yesterday electronically. Earlier this week you received information regarding how to access your child’s report. If you are having trouble accessing the reports, please contact the office. I noticed a concerning number of absences on many reports. If your child’s absentee percentage is below 90% there is a cause for concern. Please send your child to school everyday unless they are too unwell to attend.

HEALTHY LUNCHBOX-PLASTIC FREE
In preparation for next term’s Healthy Eating/Plastic Free initiative, please start eliminating any packaging or single use plastic from your child’s lunchbox. Next term, any waste that cannot be fed to the chooks, the worms or composted will be sent home. We aim to minimalise our landfill footprint. Please follow the Healthy Eating recommendations in the Parent Handbook.

HEADLICE
Please check your child’s hair at least once per week for head lice.

BUSY BEE
We held and amazingly successful Busy Bee last Saturday. We achieved everything and more than what I anticipated. We are only waiting on 3 raised garden beds, a garden shed, chook pen and worm farm to complete our new garden center. I would like to thank all the parents, staff and students who attended the Busy Bee. A special thanks to Dave and Jane Miller, Mitre 10, for donating the shade cloth for our temporary greenhouse and Darren and Mel John, Shell, for donating food and drinks for our exhausted workers.

Dear Parents/Caregivers,

Yesterday we celebrated Founder’s Day with a variety of activities. Founder’s Day is to celebrate the St John of God Sisters who started Holy Rosary School in 1954. The day started with a beautiful liturgy in the undercover area. We had some of our old foundation students and our first lay principal, Tony Treacy, talk to the students about what Holy Rosary was like in the old days. I would like to thank Miss Jocelyn, Miss Alis and the Aboriginal Teaching Assistants for their wonderful organization of a great day of celebration.

Last Friday we held a very successful Faction Swimming Carnival. All the students who attended and participated were winners. The swimming faction winner was La Salle followed by Johns and Pallotti. Congratulations to all the individual champions and runner up champions. Thanks to the staff and especially Mr Kayde for a well organised, well run fun day.

I would like to remind everyone about our Busy Bee on Saturday 26th March from 8:00am – 11:00am to set up our Community Garden and clean up the school grounds. Please bring along gardening tools and wheelbarrows. It will be followed by a sausage sizzle.

Next Thursday 17th March we will be celebrating St Patrick’s Day with a fundraiser for Caritas. More information will be coming home in the near future.

Dear Parents/Caregivers,

This weekend is a long weekend, Labour Day, and Tuesday 8th March is a Pupil Free Day. The staff will be engaged in professional learning so please don’t send your children to school on Tuesday.

Tomorrow is our Faction Swimming Carnival at the Derby Memorial Swimming Pool. You have received a note, from Mr Kayde, detailing everything you need to know to prepare your child for the day. You are invited to join us and support your child and the school.

As you are aware mask wearing for Year 3-6 students has been mandated and is effective from today, Thursday 3rd March. Face mask wearing is an additional physical barrier to COVID-19 to protect you, your child and our community.

Thank you to all the parents who are supporting our Healthy Eating Policy and the elimination of single use plastic. I have noticed an improvement in the contents of many of our student’s lunchboxes. Please refer to the Parent Handbook for the recommended food list.

On Saturday 26th March we will be holding a Busy Bee to set up our Community Garden. It will start at 8:00am and finish at 11:00am with a sausage sizzle. I hope you can give up an hour or two to help us set up our garden.

TERM 1 WEEK 4 newsletter

Dear Parents and Caregivers,

With the spread of Covid-19 across WA we have been preparing for the possibility of a positive case in our school community. The staff have been preparing work in the case of us having to revert to remote learning. We will keep you updated immediately on any developments in the school. Please do not rely on or believe what you read on social media. Students from year 3- 6 are encouraged to wear masks. Unfortunately, we have not been provided with a supply of masks. Please get vaccinated and if you or your child are sick, please stay home and get tested.

On Tuesday 8th March there will be a Pupil Free Day at Holy Rosary. Teachers will be engaged in a day of professional learning.

It is time for families to consider the option they will choose to pay their school fees. We rely on school fees to provide the necessary resources for your child’s education. If you are uncertain about the payment options please contact our Finance Officer, Gabi.

Swimming lessons for our Year 4-6 students finish today.  It has been a great experience for all of our students. The Faction Swimming Carnival will be held next Friday 4th March. Please put in it in your diary. All families are welcome to attend.

Please do not send along packaged food in your child’s lunch box. They only need two sandwiches and two pieces of fruit for the day. Lollies, chocolate, chips, cakes, muesli bars, fruit boxes and other foods high in sugar, salt and saturated fats are not permitted at school.

On Saturday 26th March we will be holding a Busy Bee to really kick start our community garden. Please put aside a few hours to help out.

Dear Parents and caregivers,

Last night we held our first School Advisory Council (Board) meeting for 2022. At the first meeting of the year, we elect the executive for the SAC and I’m pleased to inform you that the following is our 2022 SAC executive:

Chairperson- Lisa Russ
Deputy Chairperson- Phoebe Smith
Secretary- Leah Weedon
Treasurer- Melissa John

I would like to thank them all for committing to the ongoing improvement and development of our amazing school.

Swimming lessons finish for our Year 2 and 3 students today and start for our Year 4-6 students tomorrow. it has been really reassuring to receive so much positive feedback from the students regarding the swimming lessons.

I am still extremely concerned with the amount of packaged food with high sugar, salt, and fat content in students’ lunchboxes. Please follow the school’s Healthy Eating Policy recommendations. If unsure refer to the Parent Handbook.

We are creating a new garden in the Early Childhood area and we are looking for donations of fruit trees and bush fruits. If you can help out please see Miss Alis, Miss Jenny or Mr. Steve.

Please regularly check the school’s Term Planner found on school website.

Dear Parents/caregivers,

I would again like to thank you for your support and commitment in assisting us to provide success focused learning for your child by sending them to school prepared to learn. We have had a very smooth start to the school year except a hiccup on Monday night when some unfortunate individuals caused extensive damage to our beautiful school. I would like to thank Paul Betambeau for immediately coming to our aid and securing the seven classrooms and the canteen.

Tomorrow we will be celebrating our new school year with a Mass at 8:15am. All parents and family members are invited to join in celebrating the new school year.

On Friday 11th of February, the Year 2 and 3 students will start swimming lessons. The lessons are being run by qualified instructors. The Year 2 and 3 students will have 5 days of lessons and the Year 4, 5 and 6 students will start their five lessons on Friday 18th of February. Please send your child to school prepared for this valuable program.

I am still extremely concerned regarding the contents of lunchboxes. Please do not send packaged food or food with high sugar content e.g. lollies, chocolate, biscuits, muesli bars, fruit boxes etc. Please refer to our Healthy Eating recommendations attached and in the Parent Handbook.
