Virtue of the Fortnight : Generosity

Our virtue this fortnight has been generosity, and St Joseph, whose feast day it is today is a wonderful example of generosity. St Joseph helped guide his family through an unexpected pregancy, take his wife on a journey to Bethlehem, flee to Egypt to avoid a massacre and then return to their homeland. He shows the power of giving through family.

P&F Pool Party

Congratulations to our P&F on their success in organising their first event since re-establishing the P&F last year! We had a great turnout and it was great to see our new families and our old ones celebrate the start of the school year together. Having a strong culture of parent engagement in our school helps our kids develop positive attitudes towards their learning, fosters their enjoyment of school and builds their confidence in learning. Thank you to Shell Derby Fuels, Sampey Meats and Derby Woolies for your generous donations to help make this a free event for our families, and to everyone who joined us and helped out, and a big thank you to Madi and Cee-Ann from Derby memorial pool for looking after us!

P&F Easter egg Hunt

The P&F are organising a Family Easter egg hunt next Saturday morning! The Easter Bunny will be hiding tokens around the school grounds for our kids to find and then swap for some Easter eggs at our canteen afterwards!

We really need the help of some parent volunteers to help the Easter Bunny hide the tokens before 8am, and also to assist in the canteen during the event selling tea and coffee as well as swapping tokens for eggs.

Please reply to our text if you can help and whether you can do the early Easter bunny shift at 7am or can help in the canteen at 8am!

Police Visits

Derby Police have a lot to do with our school but we haven’t been committing any crimes! They have been paying regular visits getting to know our kids and ensuring they grow up with respect and understanding of the amazing work our police force does for the community. Last week our Year 1s to 3s got paid a visit and this Friday our P/1s will be taking a walk up the road to the police station to look around! Thank you so much to Tony, Tom, Dan and Nick from Derby Police Station for spending time building connections with our kids.

Solar Panel Installation

Holy Rosary is very excited that we will soon be generating our own clean energy with the installation of a 39kW solar system! With our reliance on air conditioning in the Kimberley climate our energy use is immense, and our solar panels will now produce 41% of the energy required to run our school, saving us $21000 a year off our $50000 annual electricity bill! $21000 a year could pay for an extra teaching assistant 2 days a week, iPads for an entire class, or even some new playground equipment! Thank you to Duane (former Holy Rosary student!), Jack, Michael, Richard and Lisa from Remote Solar Solutions for helping our school go green and helping steer our dollars back into resources for our kids.
